Awesome Adventure takes several important steps in our commitment to providing peace of mind for parents and children.
Check-in. We use an electronic check-in system for our classes. New families should go to the First Time Family Team prior to the check-in computers. That team will enter your contact information, any important medical conditions about which we need to be aware (e.g. a nut allergy), and identify the appropriate age-level class. At the check-in stations, you will select the classes that your child is attending that day and receive 3 sticker tags. One is a name tag, one goes to the classroom teacher, and one is used by the parent at pick up time. These tags have a security code printed on them that must be matched before a child is dismissed.
Health. For the health of all the children, and for the peace of mind of every parent, children with symptoms of illness must stay with their parents. The Parenting Golden Rule is, “Do unto other parents as you would have them do unto you.” Upon the recommendation of the American Academy of Pediatrics, please do not bring children with the following symptoms to any of the Awesome Adventure areas:
- Fever currently or within the previous 24 hours
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea within the previous 24 hours
- Any symptoms of childhood diseases
- Runny nose with any colored discharge
- Sore throat
- Any unexplained rash or skin infection
- Pink eye and other eye infections
- Head lice (child should be free of all nits)
Teacher-to-child ratios. We maintain a very low teacher-to-child ratio to insure that all of the children are well taken care of and safe. We want them to have a positive and happy Awesome Adventure experience, and for you to have peace of mind. In the rare case of an accident, we have first aid kits available in each Awesome Adventure area and our teachers are required to complete an incident report that we keep on record.
- Nursery: 1 staff person to every 3 children
- Preschool: 1 staff person to every 5 children
- Elementary: 1 staff person to every 8 children
Staff & Volunteers. The confidence and peace of mind that parents have about the care of their children depends on the quality of the staff. Most of our staff consists of adults who are experienced and loving parents themselves. Before serving in Awesome Adventure, our Volunteer Coordinator makes sure that every volunteer completes an application with references, a personal interview, and all background checks required in Pennsylvania plus a national background check. We also welcome teens to assist with the care, but they are required to participate in a childcare class before they can serve.
Nursery. Nursery parents provide their cell phone number or they receive a numbered vibrating pager that allows them to be reached anywhere in the building.
