Welcome to Jr. High Ministry!
SUMMER 2020 UPDATE:
Dear Parents, in light of our current COVID situation and our desire to seek the good of the West Shore and beyond, we have adjusted our typical programming structure. Students are encouraged to attend corporate worship with their families. Junior High Bible study is still meeting on Wednesday nights, 6:30-7:30 p.m., with social distancing, meeting in the church pavilion. Our hope is to have infrequent large group gatherings outdoors as we are able to.
Welcome to Junior High at West Shore Free Church! I am so excited for you and your families to be a part of our Student Ministry. We believe that students are not only the future of the Church but are a vital part of the Church right now! We want to strengthen Christ’s Church by strengthening the faith of our students. We would love for you to join us in this mission and become part of our family! To get you acquainted with who we are and what we do, here is a quick look at our heart and structure.
Director of Junior High Ministry
Our goal is to equip students for today and prepare them for tomorrow by growing their relationship with Jesus Christ through deep truth, deep lives, and deep love.
How will we accomplish our goal?
– Partnering with parents in discipleship
– Creating space for meaningful relationships with leaders and peers
– Engaging deeply with God’s Word, through formal and informal teaching
A Parent's Role
We would love to have parents be the primary spiritual leader and continue to direct the student’s priority to the Kingdom and the church. We believe that our role is to support your spiritual guidance by creating space for meaningful relationships with others and engaging deeply in God’s Word.

Our Programming Structure
Junior and Senior High students can hang out and purchase snacks in the Student Ministry Café from 10:15-10:45 a.m.. At 10:45, all students will go into the Student Ministry room for general announcements, a fun game, and some awesome worship music performed by their peers! After worship, Junior High students will move to a separate room for specified teaching. All lessons are from a comprehensive curriculum designed for the needs of our students. We are looking forward to seeing you Sunday morning!
6:30-8:30 p.m. (typically)
What’s the best night of the week? For our students, it’s Sunday night! Junior and Senior High students meet in separate locations every Sunday night from approximately 6:30-8:30 p.m. (see calendar for specific times and events). Some of these nights are “large group” nights (think – worship band, parties, competitions, etc.) and some are LifeGroup nights where students are divided by grade and gender. We hope you will join us!
While our schedule includes frequent large group events, the “life” of our ministry is LifeGroups. LifeGroups are divided by grade and gender and are a place where students study God’s word, share personal joys or struggles, and build trust with peers from a similar context. LifeGroups have several mature adult leaders and are based upon Jesus’ own approach to discipleship: the faithful, consistent teaching and modeling of God’s character to roughly a dozen devoted followers. Want to join a LifeGroup? Fill out the form at westshorefree.org/studentlifegroup
- LifeGroups Leaders will communicate LifeGroup locations to parents via email.
- GroupMe LifeGroups are encouraged to interact using GroupMe – Accessible on any without a phone via tablets, iPods, and computers.
Students in grades 7-8 can come on Wednesday nights with their friends to hang out, play a fun ice-breaker game, and study a bible passage together for a midweek touchpoint! Locations rotate between families’ homes.
Throughout the year we have several big events for Junior High students, including Harvey Cedars, Agios Challenge, Harrisburg and Philly Blitz, and West Shore’s Got talent. These are opportunities to invite others in, build relationships, and grow closer to Christ. Specific details will be communicated as the events approach.
