Pastor Ian Campbell shares his thoughts about becoming an externally focused church

For several years now, we’ve gone out together as a church to serve the community for a day.  The many positive experiences we’ve had have confirmed that this is a good thing for us to keep doing.  There are so many people and organizations out there that continue to need help, and these needs don’t just vanish for 364 days until the next Life-Giving Saturday rolls around.  At this rate people in the community might ask,“Hey, where’s the church gone?”

LGS Guidelines

“…let us not love with words or tongue but in actions and truth.”
– I John 3:18

As we plan to go out and serve together as a testimony of our love, here are a few details to be aware of:

  • All volunteers should meet at their project location on Saturday morning unless their team leader has specified otherwise.
  • Check with your team leader for start-up time, what equipment & tools to bring, and whether you should provide your own lunch and drinks for the day.
  • Discuss the “child-friendliness” of the project with your team leader beforehand.  There will not be any child care provided at the church.
  • Spend a few minutes praying together as a team on location before you begin your work day.  Doughnuts and coffee are always a plus!
  • Remember that LGS is as much about building relationships as it is about getting the job done.
  • All burnable debris such as branches, lumber, cardboard, pallets etc. can be put thrown on the church burn pile.
  • There will be a dumpster on the church property that can be used to dispose of non-burnable trash (no hazardous waste, acids, oils, paint cans or batteries allowed).
  • Appliances and all scrap metal should be placed on a separate pile near the dumpster.
  • There will be a limited supply of mulch at the church for teams helping low income home-owners with yard clean-up (please use sparingly).  Each team is responsible for transportation.
  • Be sensitive about taking pictures.  Always ask for permission first.
  • A generous discount on paint and related supplies needed for LGS projects can be obtained from Hepfer’s Ace Hardware, 313 S. 10th St. Highland Park Plaza, Lemoyne – 761-7722, hepfersace@comcast.net.  Please call Ace Hardware ahead of time to discuss your project’s needs.
  • In the case of rain, the team leader will decide whether to proceed with project or reschedule.

Enjoy this day of serving together, and look for ways that God is teaching you more about being on mission with Him.  Questions: Contact Pastor Ian Campbell.

There are so many needs...
You're exhausted, but you can't sleep. The responsibility of feeding, clothing, and caring for your children as a single parent presses down upon you. If only you had someone to lean on, someone who could just listen...

Prayers and good works: Life-Giving Saturday 2010

Pastor Phil and Paul Mank make a planDick and Sandy Osmun have been in our prayers for months now as Dick has been fighting an advanced stage of bladder cancer. On top of the physical struggles, the Osmun’s basement flooded requiring countless hours of manually bailing water out of their bedroom. In April 2010, Pastor Phil led a team of Life-Giving Saturday volunteers to dig out the foundation of the Osmun’s home to find the leak and patch both the outside and inside of the foundation. As of May 18, 2010, no more water has come in. Praise the Lord!
