“Father-Daughter Hike”
Friday, May 25
7:00 PM

Dads, share a special evening with your daughter(s), ages 8 to 16, as we “twilight-hike” at either White Rocks or another location.

Meet in the church’s lower parking lot by the gym. Come in appropriate attire with water bottles and flashlights. Weather permitting, campfire and S’mores provided trailside; and we may go out for a small snack afterwards.  If weather is questionable, Pastor Nate will be at the church to confirm the plans, but come ready to go!

Join us!

One of the ways in which we foster brotherhood at West Shore is through our Large Group Breakfast, which meets about six Saturday mornings per year.  These events bring together men from all walks of life to pray, hear and share some thoughts, eat great food and learn from one another.

Saturday, June 2, 2012

West Shore Church, Room 200
8:00 AM-9:30 AM

Breakfast theme:
"How This Year's Stories Build Next Year's Bonds."  Rich Biggs will share his story and we'll be looking ahead to next year.
All men are invited to join us!

Man2Man – An Encouragement
By Alex Waardenburg

Saturday, November 5: men from every age and fellowship group met over breakfast to discuss manhood: ours, our fathers' and God's. I will admit that this is the first Man2Man breakfast I have attended for almost a year and I was glad that I tore myself away from sleep to attend. Pastor Nate Winters shared some of his experiences in typical Nate Winters Fashion and lead the discussion in a typical pastor manner. However, this Man2Man breakfast was more than typical for me and to understand why please allow me to share my experience as an attendant of these breakfasts.

"Courageous" through the eyes of a SixTen Cinephile
by Alex Waardenburg

Last Friday I bought a ticket to see the film 'Courageous' despite the temptation to see 'the Lion King in 3D'. This is a decision I do not regret. 'Courageous' is the fourth and latest film produced by Sherwood Pictures, a ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church. The film follows the lives of four policemen as they face challenges in their families and in their jobs.  If you've heard anything about this film you probably already know it's filled with conviction and has a strong message about fatherhood, but what surprised me was that it was full of laughs, action and a plot that kept the film moving. Make no mistake, this film leaves no emotional stone unturned, but it does so in a way that flows seamlessly within the story. And, unless you happen to be defending earth from autonomous alien robots for the third time, 'Courageous' will be the most relevant film you will see this year. Courageous will keep you entertained, make you think, and has the potential to have an impact on your life. As Larry the Cucumber says "I laughed, I cried, it moved me.  Bob."

About the Reviewer:  Alex Waardenburg has been attending West Shore Free Church for many years.  Most recently he has been leading within the SixTen Young Adults Ministry as a Small Group Leader and Facilitator for the series on understanding biblical manhood and womanhood.  He enjoys running, kayaking and studying God's creation.
