Someone once made a list of the benefits he had discovered from studying and living his life in obedience to God’s Word.
A few of the things he testified to having experienced were comfort, healing, rest, wisdom, discernment, protection, good judgment, re-direction, hope, confidence, endurance, and restoration (for a complete list check out
Psalm 119).
From the time my dad helped me pick out my first study Bible (a gift for my 10
th birthday), studying God’s Word has been one of my favorite things to do.
That study Bible has traveled many miles with me over the years and its pages bear the markings of my spiritual journey.
Its doctrines lay the foundation for my faith.
Its admonitions rebuke and correct when the thoughts and intentions of my heart go astray.
And it daily trains me in the ways of right living.
Not surprising, since that’s what it says it will do (
2 Timothy 3:16).
A long time ago a wise person said there is no greater pursuit than the pursuit of God and His Word. My personal journey, the stories of my fellow travelers and the testimonies of those who have gone before compel me to wholeheartedly agree.
